As some of you will know I was a firefighter for over 30 years and have since been retired for over 9. During my service a number of my colleagues were burned or injured and one lost his life whilst carrying out firefighting and rescue duties. Whilst in the service I participated in various activities to raise money for The Firefighter's Charity, an organisation dedicated to the welfare and care of ill or injured firefighters and their partners https://www.firefighterscharity.org.uk/. Little did I know all those years ago that after her recent treatment for cancer that my wife Wendy would be offered a weeks recuperation at the Firefighter's Charity Home in Penrith. It is through seeing the wonderful facilities and care provided by the home that I have decided to take on the #My75Miles Challenge to help raise funds for this amazing charity. To mark the charity's 75th year they are asking people to complete a 75 mile challenge however they choose in order to raise at least £75 and I have decided to walk The Dales Way from Windermere to Ilkley in 4 days unsupported http://www.dalesway.org/route.htm. The distance is actually 82 miles but those who know me will appreciate I like to be a bit of a rebel! I plan to set off from Windermere on Tuesday the 18th September and hopefully finish in Ilkley on Friday 21st.
If you would like to help my fund raising efforts then please donate whatever you can afford by clicking the 'Give Now' button to help me raise as much money as possible.
